A wonderful class outside today, every one was on task, listening and particpating. Lovely!

You are now in your groups to construct a collaborative radio play (short story that is meant to be heard). You should get started soon as it will be due BEFORE you leave on your missions trips. We will have one more library day (Thursday). The good thing about it being online is that you don't have to be in one room to write it, each can contribute and provide feedback from anywhere!

Tonight read A Sunday in the Park and write a journal response to it. Write on whatever impressions the characters, theme, or plot gave you.

Also due tomorrow is your Final draft of your narrative essay.
Remember that your essay has a thesis, but this central idea is not directly stated; it is shown through the story...and your story is about developing a character who is based on your friend or relative.

Wow, we had great dialogue about the Lottery today. Opinions varied but I want you to walk away from the story with this clear concept:

The story was meant to be allegorical (highlight that) and concepts of sacrafice and scapegoating are present.

Review Week: Monday

English 9

In class we finished watching In the Heat of the Night.
We began watching Romeo & Juliet as review for that unit.

There is no homework, except for those students who still need to hand in work to me.


English 12

In class we did PART A of sample provincials in order to prepare for our exam next week.
There is no homework.

In class today, we had a quiz on the first several pages of Chapter 16; reviewed the homework; and I gave back tests.

Homework for tonight is to read up to page 413 and answer questions 1,2.

Tomorrow, we will review this section of homework and spend the rest of the day in review using the Geospheres cards.

Various students need to complete tests and present their books. You know who you are- don't let this week pass by without getting these things done.

We have been watching In the Heat of the Night for the past few classes and will continue to finish the movie on Monday.

We will also finish watching the most recent version of Romeo & Juliet. This will serve as the beginning of our review of the year.

We are officially in review mode. We started today in class by going over Part A samples of the Provincial and will continue to do so on Monday.

Ensure that you have all handouts completed as we will be discussing the answers to The Globe on Monday.

Memorized Sonnets due
Sonnets must include--poetic devices, 10 syllables per line, and the topic must come from room 105

Bonus opportunity: Due January 27th (day of your Provincial)
Choose one of the following types:

Villanelle (worth 20 Locobucks= 1% increase on final mark)
19 lines
5 stanzas, each of three lines, with a final one of four lines
The first line of the first stanza is repeated as the last line of the second and fourth stanzas
The third line of hte first stanza is repeated as the last line of hte third and fifth stanzas.
These two refrain lines follow each other to become the second-to-last and last lines of the poem.
The rhyme scheme is aba. The rhymes are repeated according to the refrains.

2. Discuss your response to what you have discovered in the novel so far. Respond to the thoughts and actions of any one character; who you believe the murderer of Mantoli is, or John Ball's ability to captivate the reader so far. You may respond to all or none of these topics.
