The End (of October) is Near

 English 11

Of Mice and Men test tomorrow. Bring lined paper, a pen, and your novella to turn in.

English 12

Tonight you are listening to a podcast as instructed in class. As you listen to this fascinating tale of how English evolved, critically listen to it as you would read an expository essay. Note and record THE LEAD, the use of TRANSITIONAL SENTENCES to move along the idea (history in this case), the use of LITERARY DEVICES like metaphors and similes to help you visualize or understand the concepts being conveyed, THE EXAMPLES to support the ideas, THE CONCLUSION (it ends with a quote of sorts and does not merely repeat what's been said). Record examples of these 5 areas in the podcast for discussion tomorrow.

The English Language: From a Dark Ages Dialect to Global Domination   You can also find it on Spotify.

No HW but look at this little tidbit. I don't know which is better: that Canada is #1 or that 1984 reference.

As requested, Monday's class will be designated for Ignite planning. Slay away.

Poetry is Powerful

 English 12

Write a response to today's field trip. It must NOT be an essay. It is NOT something like "My favorite writer was __________ because ___________". Instead, I want you to take what you saw and heard and present something that reflects your mind state or perception of the trip. It can be on a writer, him/herself, on a poem/story you heard, the ideas of a Writer's Festival, the moderator, or whatever resonated with you.
You could do a poem, a narrative, a song, a word collage or anything else in written/visual form. Be CREATive.
Bottom line: You need to hand in something that shows me you were present and engaged on today's field trip.

English 11

Read section 5 and FULLY complete the handout.
