And don't forget the 'Topic Sentences' worksheet,
You've got questions one through twenty to defeat!

Western Wednesday ~ Giddyup!

Those original poems are due at the end of this week
You're more than your stereotype. The truth? Speak!
40 lines maximum and do not forget how it 'scans',
oh, and rhyming couplets: work those into your plans.
But on to tonight's task. Let's talk 'of Mice and of Men'
Don't just do answers in your head, add paper and pen.
Finish all questions except for the last ones on imagery,
Hey! This poems scans, I was intentional on symmetry.

Poetry does not measure up for this moment

 Hello Class,

Once again, I just want to take the time to apologize for that debacle of a test. The test did not go smoothly, and I should have just re photocopied the 2.0 version. So grade 11s, I am sorry. Hopefully the extra 30 minutes for the essay will help remedy the fractured time in class. You are a lovely bunch and I look forward to fully engaging in all the other poetry and prose I have in store for us.

Hand in your essay part of your test tomorrow at the start of the class. From there it's a free write (yay) and Of Mice and Men.

Take care,

L

D. Essay. Identifying Theme.

1. The short stories we have read imply more than they actually say on the literal level.  They may make some significant general comment about human beings, they may present abstract ideas; they may criticize some social wrongs or injustices, etc.  Chose any story which you think implies more than it says on the literal level, and in an essay explain what you think are its general conclusions. Identify your thesis statement by underlining it. (15 marks)

Mundane, I mean, Monday!

Congrats again to Emily, Aidan, and Lucy
For creating speeches that were so juicy.
I hope we see now, where we are coming from-
Why some of us seem so cheery and others so glum.
These speeches bring us closer, but only if we let 'em
So listen to each other's words; try not to forget 'em.
But as for tomorrow, we have a test on 'the Short Story,'
Review your text and class notes & bring home the glory!

Michael Fan?

Tonight you are writing about the stories we've read,
What I've taught in class has given you journalism 'cred'.
Your assignment is to write an article one page and one sided,
Keep your opinions left out: papers should not make us divided.
Include all of the elements we covered in D block
Don't print it in color, because-- here comes the shock,
Tomorrow's class will be helping each other perfect a DRAFT,
It's a new type of writing, I can't expect masters of this craft.
Monday will be when BOTH of your copies are due,
Looking to see visible improvement all the way through.
