Sprung over Spring!
Sometimes there's nothing like a gradual ease,
Too much homework on the first day feels like a disease.
So tonight's homework is about knowing your due dates,
And not piling up books- enough to fill crates.
You've got a test on Wednesday where you show me stuff,
Because for reading Of Mice and Men we've done enough.
If your report card says 'honours', this Friday's you're meeting,
If you don't think you're ready, then I guess tonight you're reading.
The sixteenth is the day where you deliver up your poem(s),
But don't say it blandly, drive the point home(s)!
*last line can be either
you drive the point home, or you drive the point, homes (i.e. homie)

Post Spring Break Homework, i.e. the weekend before school starts
Hello Grade 11s,
Hope you had a great (read meaningful) time serving during your outreach trip.
You probably walked away with a sense of how much you have to be thankful for.
Keep going back to what you saw during PEAK week when you find yourself not being grateful enough.
So for the homework:
Remember we are reading the rest of Of Mice and Men and finishing the handout I gave you.
You are answering all the questions on that handout.
We will discuss the novella, watch the rest of the movie, debrief the predominant themes in this book, and prepare for the test (don't stress, it's not too hard if you read the book and paid attention).
Don't forget to spend some time working on memorizing your chosen poem for PoetryinVoice.
April is right around the corner. I figure around Easter (or just before), we will perform the poems.
April is Poetry Month too (look out for a contest I'll be running)
I guess that's everything. Send a message to this blog, if you think I forgot something.
Enjoy the rest!!

G'bye China Bound Children
English 11
If you're here tomorrow, we'll watch the movie,
Bring popcorn and drinks, we'll make it groovy!
We'll keep reading the novel (wrap it up if we can),
But if you're in China, finish it on your own, man!
Remember to finish the questions given out today,
But don't peek till it's over, it gives the ending away.
Friday is the day to hand in your essays for the group,
Or send it over the break--if you don't you're mark'll be...

Why So Extra, Ma?
Make a big dent on your group outline,
If you need a little more time - that's fine.
In tomorrow's class you can join your group
and finish it off with one fell swoop.
We won't have a lot of time, maybe half the class?
But to waste the given time frame would be crass.
And read up to page fifty-nine in your novella,
We'll discuss Slim, Candy, George and that other fella.
