We will continue to analyze sonnets in anticipation for your own memorized sonnets due Friday.
Today we examined the religious sonnets
Batter my Heart, Three-Personed God
On his Darkness
by John Done and John Milton respectively.

We also reviewed the definitions of poetic devices.
Try to use as many poetic devices as you can in your sonnets.

Memorized Sonnets due
Sonnets must include--poetic devices, 10 syllables per line, and the topic must come from room 105

Bonus opportunity: Due January 27th (day of your Provincial)
Choose one of the following types:

Villanelle (worth 20 Locobucks= 1% increase on final mark)
19 lines
5 stanzas, each of three lines, with a final one of four lines
The first line of the first stanza is repeated as the last line of the second and fourth stanzas
The third line of hte first stanza is repeated as the last line of hte third and fifth stanzas.
These two refrain lines follow each other to become the second-to-last and last lines of the poem.
The rhyme scheme is aba. The rhymes are repeated according to the refrains.

Sestina (worth 40 Locobucks= 2% increase on final mark)

6 sestets and 1 concluding tercet for a total of 39 lines

1. Describe your immediate reactions to the images, facts and/or song that was presented to you on Wednesday's Civil Rights Movement Powerpoint.

2. Discuss your response to what you have discovered in the novel so far. Respond to the thoughts and actions of any one character; who you believe the murderer of Mantoli is, or John Ball's ability to captivate the reader so far. You may respond to all or none of these topics.

This weekend's entries in your RRL will give you a total of three entries this unit.
